In April and May of 2021, WCOG conducted a large-scale public engagement survey of Whatcom County residents to inform the Way to Go, Whatcom: 2045 Regional/Metropolitan Transportation Plan (adopted in 2022).
Previous updates of Whatcom County’s local comprehensive plans have been informed by public input, but no survey of public opinion regarding transportation investments has been done across all jurisdictions since the early 1990s. The invaluable feedback from this survey does more than inform the Way to Go, Whatcom plan: all cities and the County are also updating their comprehensive plans (including transportation elements) in 2025. Survey results, grouped by local jurisdiction when appropriate, provide an opportunity to inform policies, strategies, and goals.
