As both the state-designated regional transportation planning organization (RTPO) and the federally-designated metropolitan planning organization (MPO), WCOG is responsible for developing and maintaining a long-range regional and metropolitan transportation plan. Because both plans call for a continuous, cooperative and comprehensive process, WCOG combines both into a single regional and metropolitan transportation plan (R/MTP) to ensure that the strategies developed will serve the entire region. The current plan – Whatcom Mobility 2040, was adopted in 2017 (amended May 2019 and May 2020) and is available as a separate website: www.whatcommobility.org.
Whatcom Region Transportation Performance Report
WCOG has completed the regional transportation performance report. More recently enacted federal MPO planning responsibilities include performance based planning and programming (PBPP). In addition to requirements for adoption of specific measures and performance targets, MPOs must develop regular performance reporting. While WCOG will update the performance report every two years, it considers the performance report to be part of the R/MTP.
WCOG’s next update of the R/MTP will be considered for adoption in June of 2022.
